Gonzalo was upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane at midday as it continues gaining strength over the open Atlantic Ocean. At noon the centre of the storm was located about 640 miles south-southwest of Bermuda. It was moving to the northwest at 12 mph with maximum sustained winds of 130 miles per hour.This is the first Category 4 hurricane in the Atlantic basin since Ophelia in 2011. Category 4 hurricane is the second-most-intense category on the Saffir–Simpson Hurricane Scale. With wind speeds of between 130–156 miles per hour, they are capable of causing catastrophic damage
